Triple Helix Launches Investment Council to Address Capital Constraints in AgTech
Council will convene to tackle capital constraints hindering deployment of meaningful innovations for agricultural resilience
NEW YORK, May 19, 2026 -Triple Helix Institute for Agriculture, Climate, and Society (Triple Helix) today announced the launch of the Triple Helix Investment Council, an initiative bringing together leaders across the AgTech capital stack to address systemic challenges that impede the translation of promising agricultural technologies (AgTech) from discovery to impact in practice.
Climate shocks, supply chain volatility, water scarcity, soil degradation, and pests and diseases increasingly threaten our food system. Yet despite an impressive development pipeline, many emerging technologies designed to address these urgent issues stall before they are deployed and scaled. Throughout the AgTech landscape, investors often operate with differing incentives, time horizons, and risk frameworks, creating friction at key transition points that can hinder the implementation of transformative innovation.
The Triple Helix Investment Council is designed to help address this problem. Together, Council members will uncover shared obstacles, identify areas of alignment, and collaboratively develop a vision for more effective capital allocation in AgTech.
"Few forums bring together investors across capital types and stages to candidly examine the dynamics shaping agricultural innovation. This Council is an important addition to Triple Helix’s work engaging cross-sector stakeholders to foster an AgTech ecosystem that advances productivity, resilience, and environmental stewardship," said Dr. Sarah Garland, Founder and Executive Director of Triple Helix.
The Council’s founding members include:
● David Babson, PhD, Executive Vice President, XPRIZE
● Sara Balawajder, Director of Investments, Builders Vision
● Bonnie Brayton, Senior Venture Associate, Fulcrum Global Capital
● Mark S. Brooks, Independent AgTech Advisor
● Mark Lewis, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Trailhead Capital
● Mathias Müller, PhD, Senior Director, Corteva Catalyst
● Derek Norman, PhD, Vice President, Leaps by Bayer
● Terence Tse, Manager, Breakthrough Energy Discovery
